Losing in Afghanistan or Roberts Gates’ Folly

Updated — I submitted this response to Secretary Robert Gates’ OpEd, to the New York Times. The Times passed, and that is fine. Then I and a few friends submitted it to several other publications…and they too passed or didn’t get back to me: again, that’s fine.

What troubles me is Gates get a voice in the NY Times…he already had his chance. He failed, we know it, and now we have wasted TRILLIONS of dollars. Plus, the horror of the pending and inescapable reaping of Afghans that is about to occur. Yet there he is, instead of being held accountable, he is given THE national platform and Gates wants more of the same.

If we are going to involve ourselves, and our allies, internationally, we must stop listening to the Bob Gates’ of the world.

Despite the responsibility and authority, folks like Secretaries: Gates, Clinton, Kerry and Mattis failed. So, we must leave Afghanistan whether Gates…
